For this project, I wanted to base my book cover and spine on the neurological aspect of neurons firing on and off as a person dreams. Thus, I followed a pattern approach to visually representing the neurons outside of the brain; hence I photographed my sister in a sleep-like pose and added a vignette effect around the top and bottom of the cover to push the viewer into the center mimicking the effect of slowly falling asleep. I implemented the neuron pattern on the spine to continue the idea with a closer focus on the pattern; I searched for a publishing company that had a logo that would be relevant to the book and found that South End Press had a light bulb with a face outline that mirrors the same direction my sister's head faces. I varied the fonts to separate the author from the title as well as symbolizing the modern-ness of a sans-serif and the form-ness of a serif font to compliment the content of the book. Additionally, I varied the font size in the Title to annunciate the important key words of the title. I went with the same sans-serif from the author's name on the back to add a light-ness to a section of the book that is word heavy, in order to create a non-overwhelming area that may attract a reader.
